Deputy Premier's mission to deepen ties with Indonesia
- Deputy Premier returns to Indonesia with mission to Jakarta
- Mission focused on growing business and government relationships
- WA's new global tourism brand to be officially launched in Indonesia
The McGowan Government is continuing to deepen economic ties with Indonesia with State Development, Jobs and Trade; Tourism Minister Roger Cook leading an Invest and Trade Western Australia mission to Jakarta.
The Minister will participate in a range of government and business meetings, industry briefings and networking events to strengthen investment, trade and tourism outcomes with Indonesia.
Following on from WA's government and industry delegation to the B20 Summit in Bali last month and the Minister's mission to sister-state East Java earlier this year, the mission is an important opportunity to strengthen government-to-government relationships and reconnect with business partners in Jakarta.
Indonesia is WA's eighth largest export market for goods. WA exported $3 billion of goods to Indonesia in 2021-22, which was above the annual average of $2.2 billion over the past 10 years.
Petroleum accounted for 30 per cent of WA's goods exports to Indonesia in 2021-22, followed by iron ore (27 per cent) and wheat (18 per cent).
Through a meeting with the KADIN (Indonesian Chamber of Commerce) Net Zero Emission (NZE) Hub, the Minister will highlight WA's energy capabilities and discuss opportunities to support Indonesia's aim to achieve net zero emissions.
The Minister will meet with WA alumni and business partners, held in collaboration with the Indonesia Australia Business Council, to explore trade and investment opportunities between the two regions.
WA's new global tourism brand, Walking On A Dream, will be launched in Indonesia by the Minister at a dinner to be attended by more than 100 guests, including Indonesian tourism industry stakeholders and local media representatives.
Operating as the 'front door' to WA for overseas investors, Invest and Trade WA works to attract investment into the State and foster mutually beneficial trading relationships.
